On October 28 - November 4, 2023, Elena Esaulenko, MD, Head of the Laboratory of Viral Hepatitis of the St. Petersburg Pasteur Institute, Anastasia Antipova, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Experimental Virology, and Vsevolod Skvoroda, Jr. Researcher of the laboratory of Viral Hepatitis conducted scientific research work in the laboratory of viral hemorrhagic fevers (Conakry, Republic of Guinea) on the topics “Studying the epidemic process of measles and improving epidemiological surveillance of measles and rubella in the Republic of Guinea within the framework of the WHO measles/rubella elimination program” and "Improving laboratory diagnostics and conducting epidemiological studies of viral hepatitis and HIV in the Republic of Guinea."
The scheduled scientific research program has been completed in full. 662 laboratory tests for markers of measles, rubella, parvovirus and 978 studies for markers of viral hepatitis were carried out. Personnel were trained in ELISA research methods for diagnosing and studying collective immunity against pathogens of viral infections relevant to the Republic of Guinea. All work in the laboratory performed in cooperation with Guinean colleagues.
Documents have been collected for submitting applications to the Dissertation Council for the public defense of theses of two Guinean scientists. The head of the Measles and Rubella Surveillance Center in Guinea was passed ELISA test systems for further work. A plan for further research on the problems of viral infections relevant to the Republic of Guinea was discussed.
The parties agreed that it would be advisable to focus the continuation of joint Russian-Guinean scientific projects on molecular genetic research, genotyping of isolates of viruses relevant to Guinea, preparation of publications and planning of theses.
