Scientists of the Institute discussed in Belgrade the project to assess population immunity to vaccine-preventable and other current infections in the Republic of Serbia

On October 18 to 19, 2023, Vladimir Dedkov, Deputy Director for Research, Svetlana Egorova, Deputy Director for Innovation, Anna Dolgova, Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Pathogens, and Irina Drozd, Head of the Central Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory, held an official meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, the Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera “Torlak” and the Institute of Public Health of Serbia “Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut”.

The purpose of the working meetings was to discuss cooperation on the project implementation “Assessment of population immunity to vaccine-preventable and other current infections in the Republic of Serbia” as a part of the implementation of activities to assist EECCA countries in conducting seroepidemiological population studies.

The scientists presented the results of a seroepidemiological population research to assess immunity to SARS-CoV-2, conducted in the EECCA countries in 2021-2022, as well as a new project of Rospotrebnadzor to assess population immunity to vaccine-preventable and other current infections. They also demonstrated the capabilities of the cloud service developed by the Institute to monitor research in real time and analyze its results. The preliminary plan to implement the study in the Republic of Serbia in 2024 was also proposed. Besides, the Russian experts got acquainted with the infrastructure of the Institute “Torlak” visited the departments and met the staff.

The parties developed a joint preparation plan to implement a population-based study in Serbia in 2024, and discussed the possibility of providing advisory assistance to the staff of the Institute “Torlak” on organization, development and implementation of reagent kits for the molecular diagnosis of infectious and autoimmune diseases.
