Igor Mokrousov spoke at World Tuberculosis Day symposium in India

29 Марта 2023

On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day on March 24, scientific and practical events were held in remote and/or hybrid format in many countries. The Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics of the Institute is involved in active research in the fields of tuberculosis since 1996 and occupies a leading position in Russia and Europe in the study of epidemiology, phylogenetics and phylogeography of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Hirsch index=40 according to Scopus). Head of Laboratory, Dr. Igor Mokrousov delivered an invited talk at the World TB Day Symposium organized by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on March 23-24 in New-Delhi, India. The report presented an integral view on pathobiology, phylogenomics and phylodynamics, allowing to assess the interaction of various factors determining the spread of Russian epidemic and endemic M. tuberculosis strains. The research conducted with the support of the Russian Science Foundation (grant 19-14-00013) is carried out in close cooperation with Russian and foreign colleagues.

Foreign and Indian scientists also presented their results at the symposium. In the reports, the practical aspects of clinical tuberculosis and the optimal choice of treatment were discussed. One of the leading international experts, Prof. Sebastien Gagneux from the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Switzerland) delivered an invited lecture on the ecology and evolution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The symposium was live-streamed on the AIIMS Telemedicine YouTube channel.
