In the period from October 31 to November 13, 2022 Lyudmila Kraeva, the head of the laboratory of medical bacteriology, and Natalia Kurova, senior researcher of the laboratory conducted a joint research work on the topic “Analysis of current epidemiological situation, improvement of laboratory diagnostics and epidemiological surveillance of whooping cough and diphtheria in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”.
In the course of the study, the current state of microbiological diagnostics for diphtheria and whooping cough in Vietnam was studied; DNA was isolated from 15 strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae isolated from patients in South Vietnam in 2021; data were obtained on the sensitivity of C. diphtheriae strains to antibacterial drugs.
