Igor Mokrousov participated in the XV International Conference on Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics

12 Ноября 2021

Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics Dr Igor Mokrousov took part in the XV International Conference on Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics of Infectious Diseases (MEEGID XV), which took place online on November 2-5, 2021.

Scientists from Europe, North and South America, Africa, and Asia took part in the Conference, which is held every two years, under guidance of Prof. Michel Tibayrenc (the founder of this congress). At the plenary and parallel sessions, a wide range of issues were considered on the topics of the conference, in particular, the evolution of viruses, the ecology of zoonotic diseases, human genetics and infectious diseases, the development of new methods of genotyping, population genetics and the phylodynamics of medically significant pathogens. A special section and plenary talks were devoted to the molecular epidemiology of SARS-CoV2.

At the section "Evolution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis", Igor Mokrousov made an oral presentation "New emerging highly-drug resistant clusters of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing genotype in Russia: phylogenomics and pathobiology" (supported by the Russian Science Foundation, grant 19-14-00013).

Also within the poster session, I. Mokrousov presented a poster “Molecular characterization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains from Covid-19 patients: a pilot study in Russia” based on the results of a joint study with colleagues from the Novosibirsk Research Institute of Tuberculosis. The study was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project 20-515-80006) within the framework program of cooperation with the BRICS countries "Response to COVID-19 global pandemic".

Note: The Congresses on Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics of Infectious Diseases (MEEGID) have been held since 1996, and are recognized scientific events in the field of multidisciplinary research of pathogens and their coadaptation and coevolution with the host organism. Particular attention is paid to the issues of parasitology, virology and mycobacteriology.
