Scientists of the Institute participated at the 52nd World Conference on Lung Health

The 52nd Union World Conference on Lung Health was held on October 19-22, 2021 in a virtual format.

During 4 days of the conference, 198 online sessions of oral presentations were held in 7 parallel streams. Several sections were devoted to research on the new coronavirus SARS-CoV2.

Researchers of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics presented audiovisual posters: “Opposite properties of virulence of clusters of drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains in Siberia, Russia” (Igor Mokrousov), “Antimycobacterial activity of new in vitro. synthetic (+)-camphor derivatives ”(Anna Vyazovaya),“Molecular characteristics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains of the Beijing genotype isolated from patients with HIV-associated tuberculosis in the North-West of Russia” (Alena Gerasimova). The research was supported by Russian Science Foundation (grants 19-14-00013 and 19-15-00028).

The conference was attended by the head of WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, ministers of health of large developing countries, leaders of national respiratory societies, leading scientists and managers of tuberculosis control programs within the framework of the Global Fund, the WHO Global Tuberculosis Program, the Stop TB Partnership. The plenary sessions were dedicated to the theme of the conference "Health and well-being after tuberculosis, Covid-19 and other serious lung injuries." Much attention was paid to COVID-19, as well as its impact on the implementation of TB control programs around the world. The TBScience special event focused entirely on basic and translational research on tuberculosis and its causative agent.

Open access abstracts will be published in the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.

Background: The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) was founded in 1920 and is a global scientific organization working to improve the health of people in low- and middle-income countries. The mission of the Union is to promote national autonomy within the priorities of each country by developing, implementing, supporting and evaluating programs to combat tuberculosis, lung health, tobacco and noncommunicable diseases, as well as other programs aimed at solving other problems. health problems, including COVID-19.
