13 Сентября 2021

The International Congress of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) was held online on September 5-8, 2021. As in 2020, the congress was organized in the online format, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

During the 4 days of the congress, 400 scientific and educational live and pre-recorded sections were held in 12 parallel streams of online meetings with the participation of more than 23,000 delegates. A wide range of basic and applied research in the field of respiratory diseases was presented. A total of 144 poster sessions included 2548 e-posters that were discussed in the open live discussion format. More than 5,000 abstracts sharing the latest scientific and clinical data were available online.

Head of Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology and Evolutionary Genetics Dr Igor Mokrousov co-chaired  a session “Immunological and molecular characterisation of tuberculosis disease and infection”. Dr Mokrousov and the scientist of the same laboratory Dr Anna Vyazovaya presented reports on different apects of molecular epidemiology and drug resistant tuberculosis: “Prevalence of the epidemical variants of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing genotype across Russian regions”, “Highly lethal strain cluster of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing genotype endemically prevalent in Buryatia, Russia”, “The Beijing genotype dominates the multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis population in North-West Russia”. The research was supported by Russian Science Foundation (grants 19-14-00013, PI = Igor Mokrousov, and 19-15-00028, PI – Anna Vyazovaya).

The abstracts of the congress will be published in the European Respiratory Journal (Q1, IF 16.7).
