The journal "Viruses" (MDPI Publishing House) has published an article, "Serological and Molecular Epidemiology of Hepatitis B, C, and D Viruses in Northwest Russia: A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study". The article was co-authored by scientists from the Institute (Yu.V. Ostankova, A.Yu. Olkhovskaya, O.A. Petrova, A.N. Shchemelev, E.N. Serikova, S.A. Egorova, D.E. Reinhardt, I.V. Drozd, O.B. Zhimbaeva, E.M. Danilova, A.M. Milichkina, L.V. Buts, E.S. Ramsay, and A.A. Totolyan). Using a cross-sectional study involving 6,773 apparently healthy volunteers from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the authors provide a comprehensive assessment of the serological and molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B (HBV), C (HCV), and D (HDV) viruses. The findings provide a rationale for incorporating molecular testing into screening algorithms and for considering revaccination strategies to achieve viral hepatitis elimination goals.
