Monograph "Population Preservation and Health"

In 2025, a team of authors led by Dr. Nikolai Alekseevich Belyakov, head of the Northwestern District Center for AIDS Prevention and Control, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, prepared a monograph presenting the most significant events in the development of population preservation and health protection in Russia. These historical events are presented in conjunction with the following important factors: demography and population, population growth and loss, life expectancy, diseases affecting population size, and others.

The book examines the main quantitative criteria for assessing population preservation (birth rate, population size, morbidity, and losses) and qualitative criteria (life satisfaction and quality of life, happiness quotient, geographic and material influences). The psychological and social causes of the impact on fertility and mortality are described. Leading experts from various fields of science, including physicians, epidemiologists, psychologists, biologists, demographers, and others, participated in the preparation of this monograph. The book's content and presentation are interdisciplinary, which broadens the range of interested readers.

The chapter on "Chronic Viral Infections as a Factor in Declining Health and Quality of Life" (E.V. Zagalskaya, V.V. Rassokhin, N.A. Belyakov, A.A. Totolyan) was prepared with funds from the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) grant No. 23-45-10017 as part of Russian-Belarusian cooperation: https://rscf.ru/project/23-45-10017 .
