On August 27 - September 6, 2025, Dr. Vsevolod Skvoroda, Junior Researcher, Laboratory of Viral Hepatitis, and Dr. Anastasia Turenko, Junior Researcher, Laboratory of Virology and Immunology of HIV Infection, carried out a joint research work on the basis of the National Institute of Public Health of Burundi, Bujumbura - "Improving the vaccine audit of preventable viral hepatitis and population screening using serological and molecular genetic methods to optimize the anti-epidemic regime". The research was performed in cooperation with colleagues from the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor and the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology. During the research activities, the experts carried out the assessment of the prevalence of hepatitis A, B, C and E markers among the conditionally healthy population of the Republic of Burundi. In order to assess the prevalence, the scientists used 10 test systems produced in Russia. The amount of studies conducted during the mission made in total 450 analyses.
Based on the working results, it was recommended to: continue collecting samples from the conditionally healthy population; increase sampling among the population under 1 year of age, 1-2 years old and people over 60 years old; organize the collection of samples from patients with chronic hepatitis B and C and high-risk infection groups (healthcare workers, pregnant women, blood donors).
