On June 10-16, 2025, a group of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) experts visited medical and research institutions of the Gabonese Republic (Libreville and Franceville) on an introductory visit. The Institute was represented by Dr. Vladimir Dedkov, Deputy Director for Research, and Dr. Anna Dolgova, Head, Laboratory of Molecular Genetics of Pathogenic Microorganisms of the Epidemiology Department.
The scientists attended a gala reception organized by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Gabonese Republic in honor of Russia's Independence Day. As part of the reception, Rospotrebnadzor team told their Gabonese colleagues about their experience of cooperation with other African countries, discussed the possibility of organizing sanitary-epidemiological and scientific work in the Gabonese Republic, and also demonstrated books and booklets about Russian mobile laboratories.
During the visit, Russian experts visited and familiarized with the work areas of the International Centre for Medical Research (Centre International de Recherche Médicale de Franceville, CIRMF) in Franceville. Gabonese scientists expressed deep interest in establishing bilateral contacts and conducting joint practical and scientific research. Gabon's climatic and environmental conditions, its geographical location in the equatorial belt, and regular registration of outbreaks of particularly dangerous infections (diseases caused by the Ebola and Marburg viruses, Crimean hemorrhagic fever, Rift Valley fever, Chikungunya, etc.) are prerequisites for an in-depth and detailed study of the spectrum of pathogens circulating in this territory, as well as the establishing of a system for preventing the diseases they cause.
