On April 13-18, 2025, Dr. Anna Gladkikh, Senior Researcher, Head, Laboratory of Epidemiological Monitoring, and Dr. Dmitry Polev, Senior Researcher, Head, Laboratory of Metagenomic Research of St. Petersburg Pasteur Institute, visited the China National Center for Bioinformatics (CNCB), formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Genomics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (BIG, Beijing, PRC).
Within the framework of the workshop with Professor Yiming Bao, Director, National Genomics Data Center, and Professor Shuhui Song, Dr. Lili Hao, and Dr. Zhang Li, bioinformatics experts, the scientists discussed possible topics for joint projects to study COVID-19 and metagenomic research, learned about CNCB history and structure, and visited bioinformatics laboratories.
During the visit, a joint seminar was also held with CNCB representatives, at which the parties made presentations on the areas and results of research conducted at the institutions and discussed in detail possible areas of joint research. The scientists expressed a desire to develop cooperation within the framework of the signed MoU and identified priority areas for joint research on the SARS-CoV-2 virus and soil metagenomes. The Chinese side announced the launch of the Special Cooperation Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, within the framework of which additional mutual visits of representatives of the parties will be organized to exchange experiences and participate in conferences.
